Our Story
We have been raising and loving Siberian
Huskies for 10 years. Many people have asked us how we got started in
this wonderful breed, so here is our story in brief. We ran a theraputic
group treatment foster care facility for many years. We primarily took
in older kids with RAD (reactive attachment disorder). Kids with this
disorder have a great deal of difficulty forming bonds to people. They
have attachment issues. I went to a seminar on this disorder and came
away with the idea of using dogs to help these kids learn to bond to
people.
I researched many breeds of dogs, looking for some breed that would hit
me as a possibility to use for therapy dogs for these special kids. I
was immediately drawn to the Siberian Husky. They are strikingly
gorgeous animals. They are non-aggressive. They are medium in size; not
so large they may easily hurt a child and not so small that a child may
easily hurt them. Also their energy level matches that of the children!
So, we got together housing and fencing and I
purchased some Siberians! I matched them to kids in our care.
That is what started us into
this beautiful breed.
We have since retired from running a group home, however, the love of
this breed continued and GREW! I learned more and more as I went
along and worked to improve how we did things as I learned better ways.
I am still on a journey and striving always to learn to do better. It's
a journey I hope will never end. We have a passion and a love for this
breed that seems to grow with each passing year. We keep learning about
them and they keep teaching us about friendship, loyalty and true
unconditional love.
We originally had them as pets and raised them and shared the pet
experience with others. We worked to educate people about this breed and
to match people to a pup if they were
prepared for them, and this was a breed that would work in their
situation. We have grown into breeding primarily for improvement in
conformation, not just to have puppies. that quest to raise beautifully
structured, healthy Siberians then grew into showing these dogs along
with loving them as companions. I can't wait to see where it leads us
next.
